Hurricane Sandy and Long Beach Island Update

October 31st 2012

The Halloween Storm

Today is Halloween and while it is normally a time filled with fun, today we must be grateful that as bad as the damage was, no lives were lost on LBI. Of course, reports continue to come in and there always remains the chance that someone perished in the storm, but for now, it seems that the true “worst case” situation has passed by. LBI is a mess, but Long Beach Island will rebuild and come back better than ever!

Long Beach Island Access

Hurricane Sandy has done significant damage to the area.  As of today, it seems like the Causeway bridge will be closed until at least November 3rd. Currently, there is a question as to the structural integrity of one of the lower bridges and that must, of course, be investigated.

Current Work on Long Beach Island NJ

Right now, the major jobs on LBI are:

  • Clearing the roads of sand
  • Clearing the roads of debris
  • Getting access to utility companies so basic service may be restored.

Final Thoughts

As you read my Hurricane Sandy Update, please keep in mind that the information I post is intended to be as reliable as possible, but the information is sketchy at best. I will do my best to filter out the rumor and write only what I know to be true. Also, when the Causeway reopens, there will be a lot of traffic so please stay calm and be patient  This is a hard situation for everyone and if we all work together, LBI will again be the wonderful place we all call home…
