Summer 2013 on Long Beach Island NJ

Hurricane Sandy has come and gone and now the Long Beach Island area, like many other shore towns in New Jersey, is left to recover. The scope of damage has left many concerned that there will not be a summer 2013 on the Jersey Shore but the truth is, Summer 2013 on Long Beach Island NJ will be a great season and “business as usual” for the LBI area!

Long Beach Island NJ

While the damage to Long Beach Island was serious and widespread, Long Beach Island has done an excellent job of working to get LBI up and running! Each municipality has worked very well in conjunction with each other and with federal responders to ensure:

  • All storm debris from residential homes were picked up by the towns on Long Beach Island NJ
  • All storm debris from commercial business were picked up by the town (with the exception of Ship Bottom who did not pay for business pickup)
  • Various programs for financial aid were created to help both year round and summer homeowners on Long Beach Island NJ
  • Exceptions have been made to the building codes to allow for quicker restoration of homes. For example, Long Beach Township has passed an ordinance allowing homeowners to move their structure into the road for a period of 7 days to allow for pilings to be driven so the house can be raised.

All of these efforts have cleaned up the Long Beach Island area and have allowed both homeowners and business owners on LBI to begin the rebuilding process

Long Beach Island is famous for many things:

  • Barnegat Lighthouse
  • Beautiful white sandy beaches
  • Safe, fun family environment
  • Shopping, dining and amusements

The good news is, each of the attractions above will be up and running for Summer 2013 on Long Beach Island NJ! While the damage was severe, many stores and restaurants are already open for Summer 2013! Barnegat Lighthouse is still standing strong, the beaches of LBI have begun to regrow both naturally and with the help of beach replenishment and the stores and restaurants that help to make summer so much fun will be open for business! Unlike some other shore towns, Long Beach Island NJ does not have a boardwalk that was damaged and needed repair so the core features of LBI took comparatively little work to restore!
