Long Beach Island is a barrier island on the east coast of New Jersey. It was created by sand deposited by the ocean currents that once flowed parallel to Long Beach Island’s shoreline and converged at what is now Point Pleasant. LBI has an area of about three square miles, and it includes Long Beach Township (population: 2,793), Barnegat Light (population: 1,074), and Harvey Cedars Borough (population97: 9). Long Beach township’s population density per square mile is 5,508 people; Barnegat Light borough is 3,415 people; Harvey Cedars borough is 809 people. The largest industry on Long Beach Island is tourism, with the LBI real estate sales and rental market driving the local economy.
