Architectural Style in the LBI Real Estate Market

When someone mentions architectural style, oftentimes they are referring to adjectives like a “craftsman” style home or a “Queen Ann Victorian” but on Long Beach Island, most homes follow the same coastal style. While there are many styles and variations, the most common style on LBI is a “coastal contemporary. A reversed living home on a piling foundation with garages below. There are exceptions to this rule. A home that has no view may opt to build a similar exterior style but make it non-reversed living to attach the listing space to the back yard. One big variation with this is the historic district in Beach Haven. This area, which roughly runs from 5th Street to Chatsworth Ave, had to follow a different architectural style that mimics that of the late 19th Century. Understanding the type of home that can be built and how that home fits into the greater Long Beach Island real estate market is an important step to homeownership on LBI.
