Long Beach Island, or “LBI” as it is known, is a barrier island off the southern coast of New Jersey. LBI is known for its white sandy beaches, safe, clean environment and family atmosphere. LBI is also known as a multi-generational destination with families of different ages coming back year after year. There are several reasons for this, and they all contribute to making wonderful memories on Long Beach Island.

Long Beach Island is a Multi-Generational Destination
There are a few reasons why it Long Beach Island appeals to such a wide age group and different generations. They are:
- Long Beach Island is in close proximity to major metropolitan areas like Philadelphia and New York
- Unlike many shore towns, Long Beach Island is not have a boardwalk
- There are amenities to service different the groups on LBI including bars, restaurants, shopping, a theater, a Historical Society and of course clean safe beaches with handicap access
The fact that Long Beach Island is such an easy drive from North Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania helps to make Long Beach Island a multigenerational destination. For those who were lucky enough to own a home on LBI. It is possible to visit every week or weekend and still continue with a normal job. This is appealing to families who still have working adults, as they can leave their job on Friday afternoon and be sitting on the beach Friday evening.
Long Beach Island does not have a boardwalk. While a boardwalk may seem iconic with the Jersey shore, it can also attract a younger crowd of people and make the area less family friendly. Rather than a boardwalk, Long Beach Island has a vibrant downtown district in Beach Haven complemented by independently owned stores and restaurants peppered throughout the area. In the town Beach Haven visitors can find an amusement park, shopping, restaurants and other fun activities. While many of these activities are geared towards families, there is also a vibrant nightlife with exciting bars, clubs, live music and fun!

Long Beach Island tries to offer something for everyone. For young and old, there are activities to keep you entertained in the summer months. Even the beaches tried to accommodate everyone with wooden walkways that are handicap accessible, and a beach wheels project that offers specialized wheelchairs capable of navigating the sand.
