Selling Your LBI Home in the Winter
While Long Beach Island is primarily considered a summer resort, most buyers and sellers in the LBI real estate market are surprised to find that winter is a busy time in the market. Purchasing a home over the winter months allows a new owner time to rent the property or make changes before the summer season kicks in. The challenge with selling a home in the off-season is that winter is not the easiest time of year to sell a home on Long Beach Island. Therefore, following some basic tips for selling your Long Beach Island home (and keeping it safe) over the winter can help you maximize the homes full value.
Tips for Selling Your Long Beach Island Home in the Winter On Long Beach Island
There are a few basic steps you can take to ensure your home shows the best way it possibly can. They are:
- Keep the house warm
- Prepare for winter conditions
- Make the house as bright as possible
Above all else, keeping the house warm in the winter is one of the best sales tactics. Many homes are turned off and winterized in the off-season. Surprisingly, homes are often colder inside than they are outside. If a buyer is uncomfortably cold in your home, they are likely to spend less time in it and miss some of the home’s features. Keeping the house warm and comfortable will make your property feel more inviting. Secondly, keeping walkways cleared of snow, ice, and other debris is not only a safety issue but also a more appealing first impression. There have been many instances where I have shown houses to perspective buyers in the winter and the buyers have had to trudge through 6 inches of snow! This can be a major turn off as many times buyers are not prepared for this. Lastly, keeping house well lit and bright makes it seem more inviting. Keeping the lights on whenever possible and at a minimum keeping blinds and shades open will make the house seem larger and more inviting.
As I mentioned above, winter is a very busy time in the LBI real estate market, but not without its challenges. When selling your home on Long Beach Island, you want to make sure your house appears as best as it can. But taking some simple steps like those above, you can maximize the value of your home in the LBI real estate market.
