Beach Haven New Jersey Beach Replenishment 2024

Beach Haven Beach Replenishment 2024

Long Beach Island is set to begin the next round of beach replenishment. Beach Haven Beach Replenishment 2024 is a federally funded project designed to enlarge the beaches of Long Beach Island and increase the protection the wide beaches and sand dunes afford the homes and residents of the area. The first round of beach replenishment on Long Beach Island was started over a decade ago, and now the LBI area is set for a "tune-up" of sorts. While many beaches on LBI are still very wide, some need to be brought back to the previously established width. The first round will take place in Beach Haven, which has some narrow beaches, especially on the south end of town.

While all schedules and plans may change, the following information is a good guideline to understanding the Beach Haven breach replenishment project for 2024. The mobilization of equipment will commence the week of September 9th at the staging area south of Nelson Ave. Pumping operations will start during the first week of October. The replenishment project is expected to be completed by December 1st. Replenishment will move at a rate of 200-300 feet per day and will operate 24/7. A 1000-foot section of the beach will be roped off and monitored by crew members. NO ONE must enter this area. Additionally, observers must maintain a distance of at least 200 feet from the work area. Residents and visitors will likley hear beeping from the backup warnings on heavy equipment. Beach Buggy beach access may be restricted due to the project. Dune top benches from certain streets may be placed into storage to prevent damage and will be reinstated in the spring.

While Beach replenishment may be a temporary inconvenience, the long-term benefits are undeniable. The larger beaches and stronger dune systems help to protect Long Beach Island from storms. This is very helpful for property values on Long Beach Island and is a tremendous benefit for those who live on Long Beach Island. Since LBI is a barrier island, it is susceptible to storms, and any steps that can be taken to safeguard the area positively impact the economy and the real estate market on Long Beach Island.
