Ways to Conserve Water in Long Beach Township on Long Beach Island NJ

Long Beach Township

Long Beach Island is comprised of 6 municipalities. They are: Beach Haven, Ship Bottom, Surf City, Harvey Cedars, Barnegat Light and Long Beach Township. Of these municipalities, Long Beach Township is the largest.  In an effort to conserve water during the summer months, Long Beach Township has water use guidelines in place to limit waste and preserve the environment.

Long Beach Township Water Use Guidelines

Long Beach Township has enacted water use guidelines for both residential and commercial properties. Long Beach Township allows watering on alternating add/even address numbers and calendar days. Addresses with even numbers may water their plants and gardens on even calendar days. Addresses with odd numbers may water on odd calendar days. Automatic sprinkler systems can operate between 5 AM and 8 AM every other day. Handheld hoses must be 3/4 inch (or smaller) in diameter and can be used during 7 PM and 10 AM on their appointed day. These guidelines are set in place by Long Beach Township to:

  • Help protect the environment

  • Conserve natural resources

  • Maintain water pressure throughout Long Beach Island during the busy summer months

Homeowners are encouraged to limit excessive watering so water does not run off into the streets and walkways. Commercial establishments are allowed to wash down sidewalks, patios, etc.  It is also important to remember that watering is not allowed during the rain and that emergency conditions may create a situation where watering is not allowed at all!
